TTS is silent
Why SatomiChat doesn't read messages aloud or doesn't read all of them, and what to check.
Nothing is read
- TTS is on: Settings → Text-to-speech → Enable TTS. It's off by default.
- The sound isn't off: Play in app is on, Volume is above zero, and SatomiChat isn't muted in the Windows volume mixer.
- Command mode isn't on: if Read only on command is on, only messages with !say or !tts are read.
- The audience isn't narrowed down: nothing is checked in Who to read and the Only these users list is empty. Otherwise, only the selected viewers are read.
- The platform isn't turned off: Personalization → Read messages from.
- The limit isn't used up: if there's a Text-to-speech is used up notice above the message field or at the top of the TTS page, TTS resumes after the reset. The notice above the message field shows what time that will be. More in TTS limits.
If you get a Text-to-speech is temporarily unavailable notification, it's not your settings: it's a temporary problem on our side. The app will try again on its own in about 15 minutes.
Not all messages are read
A message is skipped if:
- the author is on the Ignored users list or was muted through the message menu;
- the name ends in “bot” and Bots isn't checked in What to read aloud;
- the message starts with ! or / and Commands isn't checked;
- the message is longer than the Maximum length setting, 300 characters by default;
- it contains a banned word, even as part of another word;
- it repeats the previous one and Skip repeats is on;
- it waited in the queue for more than 15 seconds because chat is moving faster than TTS can keep up;
- Followers is checked in Who to read and the message isn't from Twitch: this filter works only on Twitch;
- Followers is checked, but the Twitch channel doesn't have the owner's or a moderator's account linked. In that case you get a The “Followers” filter isn't working notification;
- nothing was left of the text after removing links, emoji and emotes.

Sound plays twice
TTS is playing both in the app and through the OBS widget. Turn off Play in app if you have the TTS widget on stream.
If viewers hear an echo, the widget may be open in several places at once, for example in two sources in one scene, or in both OBS and Moblin. Every copy plays, so keep the widget in one scene and close the extra copies. Common causes of echo are listed in TTS through OBS.
Can't hear it in OBS
In the Browser source properties, tick “Control audio via OBS” and check its track in the mixer. More in TTS through OBS.
