Who and what to read aloud

TTS filters: subscribers, moderators, allow and block lists, commands, message length, banned words and anti-spam.

All the settings below are in Settings → Text-to-speech.

Choosing viewers and what to read

Who to read

Click the row under the Who to read heading (it says All viewers by default) and check the viewers you want. If nothing is checked, everyone is read.

  • Subscribers: paid subscribers only.
  • Followers: works only for Twitch, and only if the channel owner's or a moderator's account is linked to the channel. Otherwise these messages aren't read, and the app shows a The “Followers” filter isn't working notification. On other platforms, messages aren't read with this option checked. The streamer's own messages always get through this filter.
  • VIP, Moderators, Verified.
  • Highlighted messages.
  • Mentions: messages that mention your channel.

Checked options work as “or”: with Subscribers and Moderators, both groups are read.

Only these users

At the bottom of the menu there's Only these users. If nothing is checked, this list works as an allow list: only the viewers on it are read. If there are checked options, the list adds people on top of them.

What to read aloud

Click the row under the What to read aloud heading. Checked items are read; the rest is skipped.

  • Links. When unchecked, links are cut out and the message itself is read.
  • Numbers. On by default.
  • Commands. When unchecked, messages starting with ! or / aren't read.
  • Nicknames. When checked, the name is read before the text.
  • Bots. When unchecked, messages from names ending in “bot” aren't read.
  • Shared chat: messages from another channel's viewers during a shared stream.
  • Raids.
  • Lowercase ALL-CAPS shouting: a message where almost all letters are capitals is read calmly.

Emoji, @mentions and emote codes are always cut out.

Reading by platform

In Personalization (Read messages from), you can turn off TTS for specific platforms. All of them are on by default.

Only on command

In Trigger commands, turn on Read only on command. Then only messages that start with one of the commands are read. By default these are !say and !tts. The command is cut from the text, and such messages go ahead of regular ones in the queue.

Message length

Minimum length is 0 by default, Maximum length is 300 characters. You can raise the maximum to 600, but you can't turn the limit off completely. A chat message shorter than the minimum or longer than the maximum isn't read at all.

Banned words

If a message contains a banned word, the whole message isn't read. Matching works on parts of words: the banned word “cat” also blocks “category”.

Ignored users

Viewers on this list are never read, and the list overrides any other setting. It already includes popular bots: Nightbot, StreamElements, Moobot and others. The Mute TTS item in the message menu and in the viewer card adds a viewer to this same list.

Anti-spam

In Advanced:

  • Skip repeats: identical messages in a row are read once. On by default.
  • Per-user cooldown (sec): a pause between messages from the same viewer, in seconds.
  • Max reads per minute: 0 means no limit.
