Installation and first launch
How to install SatomiChat from Steam, what happens on first launch, whether you need to sign up and what the free plan includes.
SatomiChat is distributed through Steam. Installation, launching and updates all go through it.
Installation
- Open the SatomiChat page on Steam.
- Click Play Game or Add to Library. The app is free.
- Steam downloads and installs it like any other game.
Steam installs updates automatically. You don't need to download new versions separately.
No sign-up needed
Your SatomiChat account is tied to your Steam account and is created automatically on first launch. No email or password required. Your Steam name appears on the account card at the top of the settings.
That's why you should launch the app from your Steam library: Steam must be running and you must be signed in to it. If Steam isn't running, the feed shows the message Steam isn't running: start Steam and open SatomiChat again.
First launch
When the feed is empty, the app offers to connect a channel. Click Connect chat in the welcome message: the list of platforms opens.
Once your first channel connects, the Channel connected screen opens. From there you can copy the chat link for OBS and turn on TTS straight away. More in Adding channels.
Language
On first launch, the language is taken from the Steam client, or from Windows if that language isn't available. You can change it in Settings → Language, time & currency. More in Language, time and currency.
Window
- The window remembers its size and position on screen.
- Launching the app again doesn't open a second copy but brings up the window that's already open.
- There's no system tray icon. The X in the title bar closes the app completely.
- To hide and show the window with one key, assign a shortcut to Show or hide the window in keyboard shortcuts.
Free and with Satomi Pro
All the main features are free: chat from every platform, TTS, OBS widgets and game mode. The free plan has some limits: one channel per platform, 50 TTS messages a day, only the standard window and widget theme, and two ready-made widget profiles. More in What you get with Satomi Pro.
