Chat in OBS

How to put chat on stream with a Browser source in OBS, check it with test events and customize how it looks.

The chat widget is a page that OBS shows on top of your stream. It's transparent, so messages sit right on top of the game picture.

How to add it to OBS

  1. In SatomiChat, click the gear and open Chat Widget.
  2. In the Link for OBS block, click Copy.
  3. In OBS, add a Browser source to your scene.
  4. Paste the link into the URL field and click OK.
  5. Resize the source as needed.
Link for OBS and widget test

This link works through the cloud, even when SatomiChat is closed. It works the same way in other streaming apps that have a Browser source.

If OBS still has a link from older versions that starts with http://127.0.0.1, it only works while SatomiChat is open. It's better to replace it with the link from the Link for OBS block.

What the widget shows

  • messages from all connected platforms;
  • follows, subscriptions, raids, Bits, rewards, Super Chats, gifts and other events;
  • donations, if Show donations is on.

The widget doesn't show polls, predictions or stats. There are no more than 25 messages on screen at a time.

Settings

Everything is set up on the same Chat Widget page, and the preview at the top shows the result right away. The settings belong to the profile selected at the top of the page: each profile has its own. More in Widget profiles.

  • Theme: how messages look. Standard is free, the other themes come with Satomi Pro. More in Widget themes.
  • Message text: font size, spacing between messages, alignment. This block is only there for the Standard theme; other themes set all of this on the theme's own screen.
  • Display: feed direction (bottom to top or top to bottom), time, badges, platform icon, links and Show donations. For an inline chat, Where on screen replaces the direction: top or bottom. With a Satomi Pro theme, only links and donations stay here; the theme handles the rest.
  • Message animation: Enable message fade out and after how many seconds. By default, messages disappear after 30 seconds.
  • Content filtering: Hide bot messages and your own list of names that also count as bots.
  • Platforms: which platforms and events to show.

Reset to defaults at the bottom of the page returns the profile to its original look, including the theme, platforms and bot list.

The Message, Follow, Subscription, Raid and Donation buttons under the preview send a test event.

Hide a viewer in the widget

Right-click their message in the feed and choose Hide in widget. Their messages disappear from OBS in all profiles at once but stay in the app's feed. You can bring the viewer back from the same menu: Show in widget.

Language and currency

Labels in the widget use the app's language. Donation amounts are shown in the donation service's currency.
